About the Southern Paiute Center

home

the southern paiute center is not a physical building. it is a group of people working together to revitalize and document the chemehuevi language.

we meet once a week, either on zoom or at a location on the reservation near havasu lake. during these meetings, we record speech from elders and community members. we transcribe and annotate these recordings to build documentation materials.

our work focuses on the chemehuevi community in the lower colorado river basin area. we create wordlists, record oral histories, and develop teaching materials.

to learn more about our documentation efforts, see our unesco seminar presentation.

if you want to join or help, contact elder Tawavi Numa at tawavi@southernpaiute.org.
